Ben Nevis Inn, Scotland

The Ben Nevis Inn is located in Glen Nevis, which is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Scotland. The Inn sits at the very foot of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain at 4418 feet (1344m). Those who have seen the popular films of Braveheart, Rob Roy and Highlander will be familiar with Glen Nevis, since scenes from each of these films were shot here, some only a mile from the Ben Nevis Inn itself.

Glen Nevis is within walking distance of the centre of Fort William, which offers all the facilities required by the backpacking traveller, from cafes, pubs and restaurants, to shops catering for all needs, ranging from a selection of excellent sports and mountaineering equipment specialists to the more mundane but necessary supermarkets and newsagents. Fort William also boasts a well-equipped and recently refurbished leisure centre, open seven days a week, including swimming pool, sauna, gym, climbing wall and squash courts. When the weather is bad, there is always somewhere to go where you can get out of the rain!

From Fort William: Take the A82 (signposted for Inverness). At the small roundabout just after the Nevis Bank Hotel, turn left. Glenlochy Guest House is on your right. Turn sharp right after Glenlochy Guest House and immediately before the traffic lights. Carry on for 800 yards and turn right just before the Claggan Spar shop at the sign for Achintee. Carry on for one mile to the end of the road. The Ben Nevis Inn is on your right.

Alternatively, at the small roundabout, carry straight on into Glen Nevis and leave your car (if you have one) in the Ionad Nibheis Visitor Centre car park on your left. Cross the bridge and walk for five minutes towards the Ben Nevis mountain track. Cross the stile and turn left. Ben Nevis Inn is at the top of the short footpath.

From Inverness: Driving towards Fort William town centre on the A82 you will pass the large Ben Nevis Hotel (formerly the Milton Hotel) on your right. Shortly after this is a set of traffic lights. Turn first left just after the lights, and carry on until you see the Spar shop (then directions as above).
